About Latvia

Latvia is located on the shores of the Baltic Sea and borders with Lithuania in the south and Estonia in the north. Among the most significant architectural monuments located near Riga, they distinguish Turaida Castle near Sigulda, Rundale Palace (palace Biron), as well as the Catholic basilica in Aglona. Sigulda - the heart of the Gauja National Park, was founded around Turaida Castle.

The Castle was built in 1207, but was destroyed during the Northern War. Only ruins and protective walls with towers  are preserved till now. In the winter time for a holiday in Latvia, we recommend a trip to Sigulda for the day. Sigulda is considered one of the most picturesque corners of Latvia – „Latvia's Switzerland”. The city is located 53 km from Riga, which contributes to the rapid move from Riga to Sigulda. Less than an hour, and you are in the most beautiful corner of Latvia. Sigulda is also a major ski resort, a place of active and extreme tourism for people who love moving sports. There are specially equipped and lighted downhill, slalom and toboggan tracks. Thrill-seekers can ride a hot air balloon and ride tarzanki over the precipice. You can walk around Turaida Castle and admire the nature of the cliff.

There is also the most famous bobsleigh run where various international competitions take place. During the competition all the nearby cities are coming to Sigulda, and holiday festivities begin. The most daring can ride on it, but only with an instructor, and memories of a thrilling descent will stay with you for all your life. Not every can decide to go for it, but only those who are very courageous. For those who want to be closer to the nature we recommend to go to Jurmala.
