This year we shall meet in Jurmala again, at the Sixth International Competition of young singers of popular music "New Wave 2007".
The organization of this contest has already become a good tradition. Look at how many candidates to take part in the contest we have got this year! Over 8000 application forms from many countries of the world have been sent to us. This is an important fact for the "New Wave".
Every year the "New Wave" gives us a unique opportunity to witness the revelation of new names. A lot of finalists become famous and popular after this contest not only in their countries, but in other countries too.
The level of the contestants is rising every year. It means that the "New Wave" attracts the attention of serious musicians, professionals, though they are very young.
Both, those who have already been at this contest in Jurmala and those who will come here for the first time this year, will recall the unique atmosphere of the days when the "New Wave" is held over and over again. Our contest is a real world, which is unique and unforgettable. It's an original view of modern music, of young performers. The "New Wave" is a unity of creative diversity!
Working in the jury, I always try to be unbiased, though like any other person I may feel sympathy to some performers, to an extraordinary image… One can easily imagine how nervous the participants are. However, it's not the prize that a finalist receives that counts: it's much more important how the audience reacts, what you can tell people and how you can express your creative individuality.
I would like to wish creative assurance and excitement to all the contestants of the "New
Wave 2007". I want to wish you to have the support of your near and dear ones. And one more thing: nobody will pay due attention to you and remember you unless you are expressive and in a good mood on the stage. The one, who is ready to win, will prove to be the best. We are always ready to support talented young people!
